Every pursuit begins with a story, and although we didn’t quite know it yet, Chesserfeld began in my New Jersey home in 2017. I had moved into a new home and wanted to decorate my new living space with plush fur rugs, as I had seen in the home decor magazines, but I didn’t want real fur because of the animals harmed in making genuine fur rugs and the hefty price tag. So, I opted for faux fur rugs. I searched for elegant, high-quality, machine-washable faux fur rugs in many box stores but couldn’t find any that met my taste.

When I found machine-washable rugs, they were not high-quality; when they were high-quality, they were not faux fur, and when they were faux fur, they were very unattractive. Luckily, I knew someone with connections in the rug and carpet industry. I reached out to my contact and was allowed to sample various rugs across many factories and was able to choose the finest, machine-washable cruelty-free faux fur rugs. 

Although they may seem like small decorative details, rugs added a charming, cozy atmosphere to my new home, like an old, familiar feeling in the form of contemporary decor. This nostalgic warmth is the feeling that inspired Chesserfeld, and it is the feeling we want our customers to experience.
